Pensioners pension: Efforts to issue electronic PPO and take it forward in Digi Locker is a big step towards ease of living and transparency.

This year the last date for submission of life certificate is near, before which if the pensioners do not complete the process within the stipulated time, their pension will stop from December. Jeevan Pramaan is one of the most essential documents that pensioners can have to get their pension without any hassle every month. Pensioners get their dues from Pension Disbursing Authorities (PDAs) like banks, post offices and others.

To continue this, they have to submit life certificate or life certificate to these agencies by November every year, as proof that they are still alive. This year also, pensioners will have to submit their Jeevan Pramaan for the same purpose to the PDA by November 30. They can also distribute litigation documents on the formats prescribed by the central government.

Traditionally, pensioners have to visit a bank branch or post office to complete the life certificate submission process. However, the rule of being physically present to obtain a life certificate becomes a problem for many older people, for which the center has come up with Digital Jeevan Pramaan or Jeevan Pramaan where the entire process is done digitally.

Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh on Monday launched a “unique” face recognition technology that will act as a proof of ‘Life Certificate’ for pensioners and ensure ease of living for retired and elderly citizens.

It is mandatory for all pensioners to submit their life certificate annually to continue receiving pension. The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has already implemented the facility to issue certificates digitally. Singh said that the Central Government has been sensitive towards the needs of the pensioners and ensures ease of living for them. Soon after coming to power in 2014, the government decided to introduce and implement digital life certificates for pensioners. This unique face recognition technology will further help the pensioners.

He said that this face recognition technology of giving life certificates is a historic and far-reaching improvement as it will not only impact the lives of 68 lakh central government pensioners, but also those under EPFO and state governments, according to a statement issued by the ministry. The Department of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensioners will benefit.

Singh thanked the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology as well as UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) for developing this technology and making such initiatives possible by the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW).

The minister said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has always tried to “ease of living” for all sections of the society, including retirees and pensioners, who have been through all their experience and long standing of service rendered by them. Over the years are the wealth of the country.

He also reiterated that the Pension Department has taken several reforms for release of provisional pension/family pension even during the Corona Virus pandemic. The Minister said that the Department of Pensions is using technology extensively to achieve this goal, be it the introduction of Digital Jeevan Pramaan, an intelligent common software for all Ministries of Government of India for processing pension matters. Let the “future” begin.

He said that the effort to issue electronic PPOs and take it forward in DigiLocker is a big step towards ease of living and transparency. He said that the department is also bringing out e-booklets for pensioner awareness and running awareness campaigns on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other social media platforms.
