North India will soon have a new international gateway. Noida International Airport is just steps away from its first flight. The airport’s second passenger terminal trial run has also been successfully completed.
This indicates that the airport, being built in Jewar near the Yamuna Expressway, will be ready to welcome passengers by December.
Noida International Airport management shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) stating that the entire system, from passenger entry to check-in, security checks, boarding gates, and baggage handling, was inspected and everything was successful. Locals and company employees played the role of passengers and were duly issued boarding passes and escorted to the aircraft.
Big Milestone
Airport management has described this trial run as a “major milestone.” The video clearly shows that the domestic terminal is nearly complete. All security arrangements are in place, and CISF deployment has been ensured. Now, only some final administrative approvals are awaited.
Airport ready for flight
Shailendra Bhatia, nodal officer for Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), stated that the airport is nearly ready for flight operations. All necessary radar and navigation systems have been installed on the runway. Now, only the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) approval is pending, after which the DGCA will issue an aerodrome license. Once this is received, the first commercial flight is expected to take off on December 15th. Officials have intensified preparations for this. However, the inauguration date is still unclear.
Smart and Sustainable Airport
Meanwhile, officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation also held a meeting on Tuesday with representatives from the developer, YIAPL (Yamuna International Airport Pvt. Ltd.), and NIAL. The airport’s security plan, operations, and licensing certification were discussed in detail. The Noida International Airport aims to relieve travelers from North India of their dependence on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. This airport will not only be equipped with state-of-the-art technology, but it is also being touted as India’s smartest and most sustainable airport.
