A UIDAI official was quoted as saying that the “Care of” (C/O) column in the Aadhaar card is optional. This means that individuals can add their mother’s, father’s, or spouse’s name to their documents, but it is not mandatory. Individuals can leave the “C/O” option blank if they wish. This does not mean that the husband’s or father’s name has been removed entirely, but rather that it has become completely optional.
