In the new system, the chart will be prepared 24 hours in advance, which will give passengers more time. If a passenger’s ticket is not confirmed, he can cancel his train journey in time and join the refund process.
How much money will be deducted on cancelling the ticket?
According to the current rules of the railways, if a passenger cancels a ticket 48 to 12 hours before the departure of the train, then 25% of the fare is deducted. The charge for cancellation 12 to 4 hours before is even higher. Usually, no refund is given if the ticket is cancelled after the reservation chart is prepared. With the implementation of the new rule, this cancellation window will shift to earlier. Therefore, passengers will get a chance to decide in time.
Is the refund amount the same across all coach classes?
No. The refund amount on cancellation of ticket also depends on the coach class. For example, AC class tickets are expensive, hence the cancellation charge is also high. In sleeper and general class, this charge is less than AC. If a waiting ticket is cancelled, almost the entire fare is refunded.
Where to check refund status?
If you have booked the ticket through IRCTC website or mobile app, then you can check the refund status from there. The cancellation charge and refund amount are clearly visible on the platform.
Has this new rule been implemented across the country?
No, right now this rule has been implemented on a trial basis at one station. If it is successful, then the Railways is planning to implement it across the country. After this, the Railways can also make necessary changes in the refund policy.
