Several major decisions were taken at the Airport Advisory Committee meeting on Monday. These included the proposal to start 24-hour flights from Gorakhpur, connect new cities with air service, and install a statue of Guru Gorakhnath on the campus and name the airport after him.

MP Ravi Kishan Shukla, who chaired the meeting, said the goal was to make Gorakhpur Airport operational 24 hours a day. To achieve this, permission should be obtained from the Indian Air Force and the necessary resources should be mobilized. Starting flights at all times, day and night, will provide convenience to passengers and the airport will reach new heights.

The MP said that direct flights should be started from Gorakhpur to Jammu, Pune, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and Goa. This would not only be convenient for travelers but would also establish direct connections between Purvanchal and major cities across the country.

To strengthen the airport’s technical capabilities, discussions were held on upgrading the Instrument Aided Landing System (ILS) to Category 2. This will enable aircraft operations even in inclement weather and low visibility. Emphasis was also placed on completing the apron expansion work in a timely manner. Expanding passenger amenities was also discussed.

The committee members proposed that a shop of Geeta Press be opened in the airport premises, the main gate be beautified, passenger shed and drinking water be provided on the highway, the name of the airport be displayed on a large LED screen and vehicle entry passes be given to all the committee members.

The committee members unanimously proposed that a statue of Guru Gorakhnath be installed in the airport premises and the airport be renamed Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath Airport.

During this, committee members Manish Singh, Alok Agarwal, Shantanu Saraf, Additional District Magistrate City, Airport Director RK Parashar, Assistant General Manager Communication Vijay Kaushal, Airport Security Officer Vinod Kumar Singh, officials of Akasa, Indigo, Spice Jet and Alliance Air were present.
