Income Tax Return 2025: If you file your Income Tax Return (ITR), there’s some big news for you. The Income Tax Department has added a new feature to its e-filing portal, allowing taxpayers to directly check the status of their files. This means you’ll be able to know when your file has reached the assessing officer and when it has been reviewed.
New change in e-filing portal
This new feature allows taxpayers to track the progress of their ITR files. This will let you know whether your file has been reviewed by an officer or not. This process ensures complete privacy. Only the taxpayer filing the return will be able to view the status of their file.
What will taxpayers benefit from?
This change will bring several benefits to taxpayers. They will immediately know when their return file has been processed. Officials will now be accountable for timely processing of files. Digital records will facilitate easier resolution of delays or disputes.
When will it be implemented?
The Income Tax Department will issue a notification regarding the new feature by the end of the year. This feature will then become effective at the beginning of the financial year 2026-27. This means that those filing their ITR next year will be able to take advantage of this new feature.
Changes in income tax rules
The department is also preparing to amend the Income Tax Act. Until now, there were over 500 rules, but the new framework will reduce these rules to approximately 400. The aim is to simplify the process and reduce hassles for taxpayers. With this new portal feature and rule changes, taxpayers will be able to easily check the status of their ITR filings.
