Aadhaar card has become one of the most essential documents today. It’s required everywhere, for identification, address, banking, government schemes, school, college, or employment. In such a situation, any errors in Aadhaar can cause delays and you may face repeated inconveniences.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has now established some new rules regarding Aadhaar updates, which are crucial to know, especially since some information can only be updated once.
You don’t get a chance to correct your name again and again.
If your name is misspelled or missing a title on your Aadhaar card, keep in mind that UIDAI doesn’t allow repeated name corrections. If you update it once or twice and then realize you’ve made a mistake, it can be difficult to get it corrected. Therefore, the first time you update your name, be sure to have the corrected documents, such as your passport, voter ID, or PAN card, handy and carefully check every letter. Even a small mistake can become a major problem in the future.
Strictness in date of birth update
UIDAI only provides a one-time opportunity to update your date of birth. Incorrect date of birth could lead to problems with government programs, pensions, school admissions, or age certification. When updating your date of birth, ensure you provide valid proof, such as a birth certificate or 10th-grade marksheet. Once updated, you won’t get another chance, so it’s crucial to carefully check all your details.
Only one time permission to change gender
UIDAI has only allowed you to update your gender once. If you’ve updated your gender before, it won’t be possible to do so again. Providing a valid document or self-declaration is mandatory when updating your gender. Make this update carefully, as you won’t get another chance.
Address and mobile can be updated frequently
The good thing is that you can update your address as many times as needed. For example, if you’ve moved house or city, you can change your address. However, you’ll need to provide proof of address each time, such as an electricity bill, bank statement, or rent agreement. You can also easily update your mobile number and email address online, and verification is done via OTP.
One mistake can be costly
When updating your Aadhaar, entering incorrect information may result in your update request being rejected. Therefore, carefully verify all details before proceeding. Incorrect information not only hinders your work but also creates document matching problems, potentially delaying applications for banking, government schemes, passports, and more.
