Central Railway has started 14 new air-conditioned (AC) local train services for passengers. These services will be run on the main line of Central Railway and its aim is to provide better facilities to the passengers in the summer season.
Total 80 local train services
Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Swapnil Neela said that out of these 14, 7 AC services have been started by noon, while the remaining services will be started later in the day. All these new AC services have been brought in place of the already running non-AC local trains. With this, the total number of AC services running on the main line of Central Railway has increased from 66 to 80.
Complaint about high rent
However, earlier also, some passengers were unhappy with the introduction of AC local trains in place of non-AC services, especially those who travel during peak hours i.e. morning and evening rush hours, because the fare of AC local trains is much higher than that of normal local trains. Despite this, the railways believes that this facility will provide relief to the passengers in summer.
More than 35 lakh passengers travel
The new AC local train services will run from Monday to Saturday. Currently, the Central Railway operates 1,810 suburban services every day and more than 35 lakh passengers travel daily on Mumbai’s Main, Harbour, Trans-Harbour and Belapur-Uran lines.
While on one hand this new initiative will provide passengers with the option of comfortable travel in summer, on the other hand, it is also being considered as another progressive step by the Railways towards making its services modern and timely.
