There’s great news for women. The Karnataka government has implemented a menstrual leave policy in the state. Women face many mental and physical challenges during their periods. During this time, they often feel tired, which can significantly reduce their energy levels.

Working in the office during this time is no less than a challenge. Considering these difficulties, the Karnataka government has decided to grant women in the state leave during their periods. This decision was taken to promote the health of working women and equality in the workplace. The Karnataka government has implemented this decision by issuing an official order.

Under the period leave policy, women working in government offices, private companies, and industrial sectors will be granted one period leave per month (12 periods annually). Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s cabinet approved the implementation of this decision last month.

According to the Labor Department, this government initiative will benefit approximately 6 million women in the state. Before approving this policy, an 18-member committee made several suggestions. These suggestions addressed the difficulties women face during their periods.

With the implementation of this rule, Karnataka has joined the list of states that provide period leave to women. Working women in Bihar are granted two days of period leave each month. Some time ago, Odisha decided to grant one period leave to women working in government departments. This decision by the Karnataka government will greatly benefit women in the state.
