MCD : There’s good news for Delhiites. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has extended the time period for its one-time property tax amnesty scheme, Suniyo. Previously, the deadline for this scheme was September 30th.
Now, the deadline for the Suniyo-2025-26 scheme has been extended by three months. People will be able to avail of this scheme until December 31st. Previously, the deadline was September 30th.
The terms and conditions of the scheme will remain almost the same in the new time frame, except that those filing taxes between October 1 and December 31 will also have to pay a 2% late fee on the basic tax amount.
The scheme launched on June 1st and has so far attracted 1.16 lakh taxpayers. This has generated revenue of approximately ₹370 crore for the MCD. Significantly, 65,874 new property owners filed taxes for the first time, resulting in a collection of ₹187.8 crore alone.
So far in the financial year 2025-26, the MCD has collected a total of ₹2,111 crore from property taxes. This is a 22.5% increase compared to the previous year, while the number of tax payers has also increased by 18%. The MCD says that the extension of the deadline will allow more people to take advantage of the scheme and strengthen the tax base.
