New SUV Flagship: Mahindra XUV 7XO Pre-Bookings Start Dec 15

Mahindra is dropping the XUV700 moniker and bringing the updated model to market as the XUV 7XO. This is essentially the long-awaited facelift, and the biggest news right now is that you can get in line very soon.

  • Booking Starts: December 15, starting at 12 PM.

  • Token Amount: ₹21,000.

  • Official Debut: January 5, 2026.

The 7XO will be the second model to adopt the new nomenclature, following the compact XUV 3XO, marking a clear rebranding strategy for their internal combustion engine (ICE) lineup.

The Tech is Borrowed from the Electric Future

The most exciting changes aren’t under the hood—they’re in the cabin. Mahindra is pulling features from its electric SUV concepts (XEV 9e and XEV 9S) to give the 7XO a major tech boost.

  • Interior Overhaul: Expect the cabin to feature a three-screen setup, similar to the EVs. This includes a digital driver’s display, a central infotainment screen, and potentially a dedicated co-passenger entertainment screen.

  • Premium Touches: The steering wheel will likely be updated to the new two-spoke design. Minor sheet metal tweaks, revised bumpers, and boomerang-shaped DRLs borrowed from the EV line will update the exterior look.

Power Remains Unchanged (And That’s a Good Thing)

There’s no need to fix what isn’t broken. The 7XO will carry over the strong engines from the current XUV700, ensuring performance is not compromised:

  • Petrol: 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine (200hp).

  • Diesel: 2.2-litre diesel engine (available in 155hp and 185hp tunes).

Both engines get manual and automatic transmission options. The AWD system on the higher-spec diesel variants is also expected to be carried over.

The Market Battle

The XUV 7XO is Mahindra’s flagship ICE SUV, and the slight price bump expected due to the tech and design upgrades will intensify the fight against its primary rivals: the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector Plus.

If you’re looking for a feature-packed upgrade on a proven performer, this is it. But let’s be real, with these kinds of bookings opening, expect a waiting period to follow pretty fast.
