Every family of 4 people has one connection

In 2015, there were 14.9 crore LPG connections in India, which increased to 32.9 crore by 2025. That is, every family of 4 people has one connection, but domestic production has been stuck at around 12-13 lakh tonnes for the last 8 years. In 2024-25, only 11.7 lakh tonnes were produced against the consumption of 28.6 lakh tonnes. The result is that LPG imports increased by 20% in 10 years. Now domestic prices depend on the international market. In the budget for 2025-26, the government has kept ₹11,100 crore for LPG subsidy. Last year (2022-23), ₹22,000 crore was given to oil companies because they were selling cylinders at a loss.

Convert LPG from liters to kilograms like this

The global average price of LPG is Rs 64.74 per liter in Indian currency. Since the density of LPG is about 0.54 kg per liter, its rate in kilograms will be like this…

1 liter LPG = 0.54 kg

Price per kilogram = ₹64.74 / 0.54=₹119.88/kg

That is, the average price of LPG in the world in terms of kilo is ₹119.88 per kg. In this sense, if our 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders were available in every country, the average price of the cylinder would be Rs 1702.42.
