Liquor Shop Closed: Government Declares 10-Day Dry Day — Here’s What Residents Should Know

Liquor Shop Closed: On the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, keeping in mind the law and order and the sentiments of the devotees in Pune city, the administration has taken two important decisions.

This time, the sale of liquor will be banned in the major areas of the city for the entire 10 days of Ganeshotsav, while Ganesh Mandals have been allowed to play loudspeakers till midnight for 7 nights.

Ban on liquor sale for 10 days in 3 police station areas of old Pune

According to the order issued by the State Excise Department, liquor shops, permit rooms, beer bars and restaurants will remain closed during Ganeshotsav in Vishrambagh, Faraskhana and Khadak police station areas. This ban will be effective for 10 days, whereas earlier only the first and last day were declared dry days. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar had also recommended this decision to the district administration.

Permission to play loudspeakers for 7 nights

In the second decision, District Collector Jitendra Dhudi has allowed Ganesh Mandals to play loudspeakers from August 30 to September 4 and till 12 midnight on the day of immersion on September 6. This exemption is usually for 5 days, but this time it has been extended to 7 days due to the festival falling on Saturday and Sunday. Noise pollution rules is mandatory

This permission has been given as per the Noise Pollution (2000 and 2017 amended) rules of the Central Government, under which a total of 15 days in a year can be allowed for loudspeakers till 12 midnight. However, this exemption will not apply to silence zones like hospitals, educational institutions and courts.
