Life Certificate: A nationwide campaign to submit Life Certificates, or Digital Life Certificates, for central government pensioners has begun on November 1st .
The Department of Pensions and Pension Welfare is running DLC Campaign 4.0 from November 1st to 30th . During this period, millions of pensioners will verify their identities online so they can continue receiving their pensions on time.
But as the use of digital platforms grows, so too are cases of cybercrime, identity theft, and fraudulent calls. In response to this threat, the department has issued important precautions for pensioners.
1. Submit life certificate only on authorized platforms
The DoPPW has clearly stated that pensioners should submit their life certificates through DLC , or registered medium only. This includes the Aadhaar Face RD app, the India Post app, and the official portal jeevanpramaan.gov.in . Submitting your life certificate through any third-party agent or unknown app can be extremely dangerous.
2. Do not share your personal information at all
Cyber criminals most often try to steal OTPs, Aadhaar numbers , and bank information. Therefore, never share your mobile number, Aadhaar number, or PPO number with anyone. Never click on any unknown links. Never share your bank account or OTP information with anyone . Pensioners should be aware that government departments never ask for passwords, OTPs , or PINs over the phone or email.
3. Beware of fake calls and messages
Cybercriminals often call posing as government employees. If they tell you to update your life certificate or your pension will be stopped, be wary. Verify such messages or emails first. Clicking on a fake link could result in data theft.
4. Use secure devices and internet
Keep these things in mind when collecting DLC .
Your mobile or computer should have the latest antivirus and updates.
Use a safe internet.
Avoid public Wi-Fi altogether.
Public networks are the easiest route for cyber attacks.
5. Immediately report any suspicious activity, including receiving suspicious calls, seeing unknown logins, or asking for an OTP from a bank or government official . Report it immediately. Inform your bank and file a complaint on the national cybercrime portal, cybercrime.gov.in .
What is Life Certificate ?
Jeevan Pramaan is a digital life certificate that verifies that pensioners are alive and can continue receiving their pension. Pensioners are required to submit this certificate in November each year. The digital process eliminates the need to visit a bank or post office. This Aadhaar- based technology allows for the convenience of submitting life certificates from the comfort of their homes .
