IRCTC Rules are changing from July 1: Know how to authenticate IRCTC user ID with Aadhaar; this is the process

Tatkal Train Ticket: 24 train tickets can now be booked every month from IRCTC accounts linked to Aadhaar. Only 12 tickets will be booked from accounts without Aadhaar verification. From July 15, Aadhaar OTP verification will also be required at the time of booking Tatkal tickets.

Tatkal Train Ticket Rules: From July 1, 2025, there is going to be a big change in the rules for Tatkal train ticket booking. Booking of these tickets will now be possible only through Aadhaar authentication. To book Tatkal train tickets on IRCTC website and app, it will be mandatory for the user to link Aadhaar to his IRCTC account. Only those passengers will be able to book Tatkal tickets, whose Aadhaar authentication process has been completed. Railways had issued a circular in this regard on June 10.

Not only this, from July 15, Aadhaar OTP verification will also be required at the time of booking Tatkal tickets. Whether the passenger is booking the train ticket online, booking from the counter or booking through an agent. In such a situation, the passenger has to ensure that his mobile number is linked to Aadhaar and is active.

How to authenticate IRCTC user ID with Aadhaar

  • Go to www.irctc.co.in or open IRCTC Rail Connect app.
  • Log in with your login credentials.
  • Now go to the ‘My Account’ section and select ‘Authenticate User’.
  • After this, the authenticate user page will open, where the user’s profile details will be filled.
  • Enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number or Virtual ID and click on the ‘Verify Details and Receive OTP’ button.
  • Enter the OTP received on the mobile number linked to Aadhaar.
  • Read the consent form, select the consent checkbox and submit.
  • A confirmation message will be shown on successful authentication.
  • An alert message will be shown if authentication fails. If this happens, check the details again.
  • To check the authentication status, select ‘Authenticate Userlink’ in the ‘My Account’ tab.

How to authenticate passengers with Aadhaar

  • Go to www.irctc.co.in.
  • After logging in, click on the ‘Add/Modify Master List’ link in ‘My Profile’ in the ‘My Account’ tab on the home page.
  • On the ‘Add/Modify Master List’ page, fill in details like name, date of birth, gender, which berth you want, catering service option, senior citizen concession, type of ID card.
  • Select Aadhaar/VID in the type of ID card and enter the Aadhaar number.
  • After this, submit it.
