The Finance Ministry and RBI are launching a unified portal that will allow one-stop search and claim for unclaimed assets such as bank deposits, shares, insurance, and pensions. The “Your Capital, Your Rights” campaign, which has returned ₹1,887 crore so far, will raise awareness to bring back trapped money.
The Ministry of Finance and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) are jointly developing a unified portal that will help citizens locate and claim their unclaimed financial assets. The portal will bring together unclaimed assets spread across various financial categories, such as bank deposits, pension funds, shares, dividends, and insurance premiums. The initiative aims to make the process of locating and claiming unclaimed assets simple, transparent, and convenient.
Status of unclaimed properties
Currently, regulators like RBI, SEBI and IRDAI provide services to trace unclaimed assets through different portals, such as RBI’s UDGAM, SEBI’s MITRA and IRDAI’s Insurance Bharosa portal. Despite this, citizens continue to face difficulties in claiming these assets as the process is complex and fragmented. Recognizing this problem, the government launched a massive awareness campaign, ‘Your Capital, Your Rights,’ focusing on financial inclusion and education, in October 2025, which will continue until December. So far, assets worth over ₹1,887 crore have been returned to the holders and their nominees during the campaign.
This unified portal will provide a one-stop shop for properties under all regulators, eliminating the need for users to search multiple sources. The portal’s integrated digital tools and on-the-spot assistance camps will facilitate citizens in locating their unclaimed funds, updating their documents, and completing the claim process. Department Secretary M. Nagaraju stated that the portal is expected to be launched soon, enhancing transparency and ensuring faster settlements.
This initiative will help millions of Indians recover their dormant wealth, empowering them financially. This step is being considered a significant breakthrough towards financial inclusion and Digital India.
