Infosys has removed 195 trainees from Mysore training campus after failing in internal assessment. 800 trainees have been removed since February 2025.

The country’s second largest IT company Infosys has removed 195 more trainees from its training campus in Mysore. The company says that these trainees have been removed after failing in internal assessment. According to a report by Moneycontrol, the company sent an email on April 29 informing the trainees about their removal. The trainees who have been removed are part of a batch of 680 trainees. Infosys has removed about 800 trainees since February 2025. Infosys says that it has acted as per its prescribed policy, under which if a trainee does not succeed in the assessment, then the company cannot keep him.

Of the laid-off trainees, around 250 had enrolled in upskilling programmes through UpGrad and NIIT, while more than 150 trainees had registered for outplacement services. Infosys has partnered with UpGrad for BPM (business process management) training and with NIIT for IT training. This training is being provided free of cost.

Action on failing assessment

The email sent by the company said, “You did not qualify despite three attempts of the ‘General Foundation Training Programme’. Despite additional preparation time, doubt clearing sessions and mock tests, you could not qualify, so now you cannot proceed further in the apprenticeship programme.”

Offer of 12 weeks of training

Infosys has offered the laid-off trainees an alternative career opportunity with 12 weeks of training in the BPM sector. Apart from this, one month’s ex-gratia payment, relieving letter and if needed, transport and travel allowance from Mysore to Bangalore will also be given. If the trainees wish, they can stay at the Employee Care Center in Mysore till their journey.

Labour department gives clean chit

On February 27, the Karnataka Labour Department clarified that this case is not a violation of labour law in any way. According to the department, all of them were trainees and they did not have any formal employee relationship with the company. Therefore, it cannot be considered a layoff. Earlier, on the instructions of the Central Labour Ministry, Karnataka labour officials had also inspected Infosys’ Bangalore and Mysore campuses.
