IndiGo Direct Flight to Purnea, Bihar: India’s largest airline IndiGo has announced to connect Purnea in Bihar to its network. Now passengers will be able to avail direct flights between Kolkata and Purnea from 15 September 2025. This will be the first commercial flight to be started by the airline from Purnea Airport.
New start of flight from Purnia
IndiGo said in a press release that flights on the Kolkata-Purnia route will operate three days a week i.e. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. These flights will be operated by IndiGo’s ATR aircraft so that passengers from smaller cities can get cheap and easy air travel.
- Kolkata to Purnia (6E 7924): takeoff at 12:30 and landing at 13:40
- Purnia to Kolkata (6E 7925): takeoff at 14:30 and landing at 15:40
Fourth destination of Bihar
Purnia is the fourth destination in Bihar for IndiGo. Earlier, the airline was providing its services from Patna, Gaya and Darbhanga. By adding Purnia, IndiGo’s domestic network has reached 94 cities while the total number of destinations has increased to 137.
Promoting trade and tourism
IndiGo’s Head of Sales Vinay Malhotra said that Purnia is a rapidly emerging trade and industry hub. This route will not only facilitate passengers but will also benefit agriculture, food processing, healthcare and education sectors. The airline claims that this move will give new impetus to trade and tourism in eastern India.
Strength gained from UDAN scheme
The commercial launch of Purnia Airport is happening under the UDAN scheme of the Government of India. Its aim is to connect tier-2 and tier-3 cities to major air hubs. After getting connectivity from Kolkata, passengers of Purnia will get direct access to IndiGo’s domestic and international network.
Ticket booking started
Ticket booking for this route has started from 9 September 2025 on IndiGo’s official website goindigo.in and mobile app.

IndiGo’s Purnia route is a big gift not only for Bihar but for the entire eastern India. This step proves that the airline is working rapidly towards making air travel cheap and accessible even in small cities.
