Hardly anyone in India would have imagined that one day, stepping into a railway station would feel as luxurious as an airport! But this dream has now become a reality, not in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, or Bengaluru, but in a city whose name would surprise everyone.
We’re talking about Rani Kamlapati Railway Station, located in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, which is the country’s first privately managed railway station and rivals airports in terms of amenities.

Opened as Habibganj Station in June 2017, the station was rebranded as Rani Kamlapati in 2021. The station operates under a PPP model between Indian Railways and the Bansal Group, meaning the railways owns the station, but its operations and maintenance are privately managed.
Consequently, the amenities offered here transport passengers to a completely different world. Upon entering the station, passengers are greeted by air-conditioned concourses, sparkling floors, and spacious, clean waiting lounges. High-speed escalators and elevators provide instant access to each platform. Furthermore, it boasts a gourmet food court, luxury retail outlets, hotels, office space, and even a super-specialty hospital, making it a step ahead of other stations in the country.
Sustainable and high-tech station
The station’s design incorporates a solar power system, 24/7 power backup, and advanced CCTV monitoring. Every corner is well-organized and passenger-centric, offering comfort and convenience rather than crowding. The cleanliness and management make passengers feel that India’s railway infrastructure has now reached world-class standards.
Major hub for premium trains
Rani Kamlapati station is located on the New Delhi-Chennai main line and is also the headquarters of the Bhopal Railway Division. Premium trains like Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, Rajdhani, and Duronto pass through here, making it a major transit point for high-end travelers. The station’s success has led Indian Railways to redesign stations in major cities. Similar transformations may soon be seen at major stations like New Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai CST.
Changed railway travel experience
Rani Kamlapati Station isn’t just a station, it’s a premium travel gateway. Travelers come here not just to catch a train, but to experience the city. If you ever visit Bhopal, be sure to check out this station… Believe me, you won’t believe your eyes.
