Indian Railways: Want a confirmed lower berth for the elderly? Check IRCTC instructions

Railways had suspended concessional tickets for non-essential journeys such as for several categories of people, including senior citizens, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. So that there is no risk of life due to the threat of epidemic. Railways has withdrawn concessions for senior citizens.



Traveling by Indian Railways is considered the safest for long distances. Every day a large number of people travel by railways. Due to which there is also problem regarding ticket booking. Many people are not able to get their favorite seat. Especially for senior citizens who need a lower berth more. It is difficult to get a lower berth even at the time of booking tickets before the journey of one month in advance. Regarding these things, IRCTC gave information that how you can book lower berth for senior citizens and what does the rule say for this?

A few days ago, a Twitter user had tweeted to Indian Railways saying that IRCTC should improve its process. Tagging Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, the passenger wrote, “What logic do you use for seat allotment, I had booked ticket for 3 senior citizens with lower berth preference, 102 berths are available, still allotted berth There are middle, upper and side. Why is it like this? It needs to be corrected.”





Following which, replying to a user named Jitendra S, IRCTC tweeted, “Lower berth/Senior Citizen quota berth is only 60 years and above, lower berth earmarked for women of 45 years and above, When she is alone or two passengers.” IRCTC further said that if there are more than two senior citizens or one is a senior citizen and the other is not a senior citizen, the system will not consider it and then ticket allotment will be done on the same basis.
