Indian Railways New Rules: Big news! After Tatkal, Railways' big decision on waiting tickets, know update immediately

Waiting List Tickets: According to the rules issued by the Railways in the year 2013, the number of waiting list tickets in different coaches was fixed. But now the waiting list number will be given on the basis of a fixed rule for each coach.

Indian Railways Waiting List Rule: If you also often travel by train, then this news is useful for you. After the changes made by IRCTC in the process of Tatkal tickets in the past few days, Indian Railways has made a big change regarding waiting list tickets. Now only 25 percent of the total seats in all categories (AC1, 2, and 3, sleeper and chair car) of every train will be issued waiting tickets by the Railways. Disabled quota and seats of different categories will not be included in issuing waiting tickets. The purpose of this step by the Railways is to save the passengers from the uncertainty of non-confirmed tickets.

Why was this decision taken?

According to railway officials, usually 20%-25% of waitlist tickets get confirmed before the journey. After a circular issued by the Railway Board, all zonal railways have started implementing this rule. Officials say that earlier due to the high number of waiting list tickets, many passengers used to board reserved coaches and trains used to get crowded. This caused problems for those traveling on confirmed tickets.

Why was this decision taken?

According to railway officials, usually 20%-25% of waiting list tickets get confirmed before the journey. After the circular issued by the Railway Board, all the zonal railways have started implementing this rule. Officials said that earlier due to the large number of waiting list tickets, many passengers used to board the reserved coaches, which caused crowding in trains. This caused problems to passengers with confirmed tickets. This decision has been taken by the Railways to reduce the uncertainty of people after booking tickets.

What was the rule earlier?

As per the rule of January 2013, 30 waitlist tickets were issued in AC1, 100 in AC2, 300 in AC3 and 400 in sleeper. Now under the new policy, every zonal railway will decide the limit of waitlist tickets based on the booking and cancellation pattern. A senior official of Western Railway said that earlier due to the high number of waiting list tickets, there was a difference between the number of confirmed tickets and the number of passengers boarding the train. This caused problems to the passengers. Through the new rule, passengers will be able to get a better experience.

What is the calculation of available berths?

Available berths’ means those seats which are left for general booking after allocating different quotas like senior citizens, women, foreign tourists and Divyang passengers. For example, if 400 berths are available for booking after applying all the quotas, then a maximum of 100 seats can be issued on the waiting list. Currently, due to the high number of waiting list tickets, there was more trouble during peak season. Especially on the occasion of Diwali and Chhath, there was a lot of chaos. Under the new rule, now only up to 25% of the total number of berths available in each coach can be issued on the waiting list.

An official told TOI that this change will be applicable to all categories of seats. This rule will also be implemented on booking of Tatkal and remote locations. However, this new limit will not be applicable on concessional fares or tickets issued on government warrants. In a circular issued by Western Railway (WR), it was said that the work of implementing this will be done by CRIS (Center for Railway Information Systems) by making changes in the software. The date of implementation of this rule will be announced soon.
