Indian Railway Rule Change: Indian Railways has changed the rules for booking train tickets starting in 2025, with the biggest change being the lower berth booking rule. Furthermore, the first 15 minutes of reservation opening will now be reserved only for Aadhaar-linked users.

Indian Railways has made several significant changes to train ticket booking rules from 2025, aimed at providing greater convenience and transparency to passengers. These include the allocation of lower berths, fixed sleeping hours, and a reduction in the advance reservation period.

New policy regarding lower berth

Railways continues to prioritize lower berths for senior citizens, women over 45, and pregnant women. If a lower berth is not available at the time of ticket booking, an eligible passenger will be assigned an upper or middle berth. If a lower berth becomes vacant during the journey, the TTE can offer it to an eligible passenger. Online booking also includes an option to book tickets only when a lower berth is available.

Gold rules

In reserved coaches, the designated sleeping time will be from 10 pm to 6 am. During this time, only passengers in lower berths will be allowed to sleep on their berths, while everyone must remain seated during the day. RAC ticket holders will also be able to take advantage of the special daytime seat-sharing arrangement.

Reduction in advance reservation period

Previously, tickets could be booked up to 120 days prior to travel, but this has now been reduced to 60 days. This will improve the booking process and increase passengers’ chances of getting tickets, while also reducing cancellations.

Expansion of digital facilities

Railways has launched the RailOne app, which provides all ticket booking services in one place, making the booking process even easier. Passengers are advised to make proper use of the available options when booking to ensure a comfortable and convenient journey.
