ITR Filing 2025: The process of filing income tax return has started. The forms have also been provided by the Income Tax Department. After filling your ITR form, in how many days do you get a refund. Sometimes there is a delay. Why is this so, let’s know the full details
ITR Filing 2025: Taxpayers across the country have now started filing ITR. Some time ago, the date of ITR filing (ITR Filing Last Date) has been extended by the Income Tax Department till September 15. If you file ITR on time, then you can avoid many problems. You can avoid penalty by filing ITR before time. Those who have filed, they must also be waiting for the refund. Sometimes some people get the refund quickly. At the same time, it takes a long time for some people to get the refund.
Actually, it is necessary for taxpayers to file their Income Tax Return (ITR). Taxpayers have to wait for approval from the Income Tax Department. So that it can be known whether they have to pay more tax or they will get income tax refund. Without approval, refund is not received.
Average time of 10 days to get refund
Last year, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman herself had said that with the use of technology, the time taken in the refund process has now reduced considerably. While in 2013-14, it used to take an average of 93 days to issue a refund, now this time has come down to just 10 days. However, at that time the Finance Minister had also said that not every ITR is processed in 10 days. But the thing to note here is that 10 days is an ‘average’ time, not a guarantee. At the same time, experts say that after filing the income tax return, the refund starts coming from the department in 20 days. At the same time, refund can be issued within 9 months from the end of the assessment year.
These mistakes can be the reason for refund getting stuck
To get refund, you not only have to file income tax return, but also have to get it e-verified. Unless you e-verify ITR, your return will not be processed. After e-verification, it can take 4-5 weeks for the refund to come. So do not forget to do this work. Apart from e-verification, refund can also get stuck due to some mistakes like – Aadhar not being linked to PAN, not responding to the email sent by the Income Tax Department, TDS not matching, your account number or IFSC code being wrong, etc.
