IMPS charge: New rules apply on IMPS, everyone from HDFC to PNB has increased the charges

In today’s digital era, as much as it has become easier to make online payments, it has become equally important to keep information related to the transaction.

Whether you send money through a mobile app or net banking, it is important to know the method of every transfer and the charges levied on it. In the era of UPI, where free transfer has become a habit, those who transfer money through IMPS (Immediate Payment Service) will now have to loosen their pockets a little more.

IMPS is a real-time fund transfer service, through which you can send money instantly to any bank account. But now many big banks have increased the charges on IMPS transactions. Apart from State Bank of India (SBI), these include Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB) and private sector HDFC Bank (HDFC). These banks have implemented new rates from August 2025.

Now you can send 5 lakh rupees in a day through IMPS

Through IMPS, you can transfer up to ₹ 5 lakh in a day. Earlier most government banks did not charge any fee for this service, but now the picture is changing.

Canara Bank new charges

Canara Bank has decided that if you transfer an amount up to ₹ 1000, then there will be no charge. But as the transaction amount increases, the charge also increases.

₹1000 to ₹10,000: ₹3 + GST

₹10,000 to ₹25,000: ₹5 + GST

₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000: ₹8 + GST

₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh: ₹15 + GST

₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh: ₹20 + GST

New structure of Punjab National Bank

PNB has also implemented charges on IMPS.

Upto ₹1000: No charges

₹1001 to ₹1 Lakh: ₹6 + GST ​​on branch transfer, ₹5 + GST ​​on online transfer

Transfers above ₹1 lakh: ₹12 + GST ​​from branch, ₹10 + GST ​​on online transfer

hdfc bank new policy

HDFC Bank has fixed charges for its customers according to their age.

Up to ₹1000: ₹2.50 for general customers, ₹2.25 for senior citizens

₹1000 to ₹1 lakh: General customers ₹5, Senior citizens ₹4.50

Above ₹1 lakh: General customers ₹15, Senior citizens ₹13.50

Things to note

GST will be applicable extra on all charges

Charges are determined based on the transfer amount and transfer mode (branch or online)

Some banks are also giving relief to senior citizens
