IMD Rain Alert: Some parts of eastern Rajasthan may receive light to moderate rain in two-three days and heavy rain during July 2 to 6. Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota and Udaipur divisions are likely to receive heavy rain on July 2-6 and very heavy rain at some places.

IMD Rain Alert: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain for the next few days in the eastern and central regions of India. A low pressure area remains over the northwest Bay of Bengal and West Bengal-Bangladesh coast. Due to its effect, heavy rain is expected in Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Odisha and Vidarbha from July 1 to 6. Also, light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and strong winds of 30-40 kmph are likely in these areas for the next seven days. The weather will also remain active in northwest India. Heavy rain is expected at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and eastern Rajasthan from July 1 to July 6. Uttarakhand, western Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan may receive extremely heavy rainfall at some places on July 1 and July 5.

Light rain in Delhi and NCR on Monday brought down the temperature and gave relief to people from the scorching heat. According to the IMD, Delhi will remain generally cloudy for the next several days. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected. According to the forecast for the coming days, the temperature will remain between 31-34 degrees Celsius till July 6. Light rain is expected in all districts of Delhi-NCR. Heat wave is not likely during this period. Winds are blowing in the east direction at a speed of 15 to 20 kmph in Delhi, which has further increased the effect of cooling. IMD officials said that below normal temperatures and frequent rains are a common symptom of the early stages of monsoon. People who have been struggling with persistent heat and pollution levels in recent weeks are likely to get relief.

Heavy rains in Rajasthan

The spell of good rains due to the early monsoon in Rajasthan is continuing. This time, rain has already occurred in 39 districts of the state in the month of June, out of which abnormal rainfall was recorded in 34 districts, while only two districts Jaisalmer and Phalodi are now facing rain shortage. According to the Meteorological Department, the pace of rain is likely to increase in western Rajasthan during 2-5 July. In some parts of eastern Rajasthan, light to moderate rain may occur in two-three days and heavy rains during 2 to 6 July. There is a possibility of heavy rain at some places and very heavy rain at some places in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota and Udaipur divisions on 2 to 6 July. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Dausa, Karauli and Sawai Madhopur on 1 July, Bharatpur Dausa, Karauli on 2 July and Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand and Pali districts on 3 July.

Heavy rains and landslides block roads in Himachal

Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh on Monday led to the collapse of some buildings. Landslides occurred in many areas and roads were blocked. 259 roads in the state, including 129 in Mandi and 92 in Sirmaur district, were closed due to cloudburst, floods and landslides caused by heavy rains. 614 transformers and 130 water supply schemes were disrupted. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, 23 people have died in rain-related incidents in the state so far since the arrival of monsoon on June 20. Himachal received an average of 135 mm rainfall in June as against the normal rainfall of 101 mm. An orange alert for heavy rains has been issued in many areas of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday. Rains have been predicted in the hill state till July 6. Meanwhile, due to continuous rains, traffic was diverted to a single lane due to landslides at five places on the Shimla-Chandigarh National Highway, causing a jam.
