IMD issued red alert regarding heavy rain in Mumbai, school-colleges closed in Pune

Mumbai Rain: Apart from Mumbai, heavy rains are also forecast in other parts of Maharashtra. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Pune, Satara Ghat, Beed, Ahmednagar and Latur. These areas are likely to receive rain and thundershowers along with strong winds at a speed of 40-50 kmph

Heavy rains have once again hit Mumbai on Monday morning. The entire life has been disrupted due to heavy rains. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in the city today, due to which the orange alert issued earlier has been changed to a red alert. Along with Mumbai, a red alert has also been issued for Thane and Raigad.

How much rain fell in which areas?

Between 8:30 am on September 14 and 5:30 am on September 15, different parts of Mumbai recorded varying amounts of rain. Colaba recorded the highest rainfall of 88.2 mm, followed by Bandra at 82.0 mm, Byculla at 73.0 mm, and Tata Power at 70.5 mm. Juhu received 45.0 mm, while Santacruz and Mahalaxmi stations received moderate rainfall of 36.6 mm and 36.5 mm respectively. According to the weather department, heavy rains accompanied by strong winds are likely to continue in the city for the next few hours, leading to waterlogging in many areas.

Alert in other parts of Maharashtra too

Apart from Mumbai, heavy rains are also forecast in other parts of Maharashtra. IMD has issued an orange alert for Pune, Satara Ghat, Beed, Ahmednagar and Latur. These areas are likely to receive rain and thundershowers along with strong winds at a speed of 40-50 kmph. In view of heavy rains in Pune, all schools and colleges in Pune suburbs have been closed. Many users on social media have also shared videos and pictures of rain in Mumbai, in which waterlogging is seen at many places.
