Heavy rains will continue to wreak havoc in several districts of Tamil Nadu until November 11th. The International Monetary Fund (IMD) has issued a torrential rainfall warning for the state, placing the administration on high alert.
The rains are being caused by moisture from the Bay of Bengal and a cyclonic circulation over interior Tamil Nadu, leading to intermittent heavy downpours in central and western parts.

Alert issued in these districts
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain in different districts for the next two days:
November 6: Heavy to very heavy rain
Very heavy rain warnings are in place for Ariyalur, Perambalur, Tiruchirapalli, Kallakurichi, and Tiruvannamalai. Heavy rain and thundershowers are also expected in Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, and Tiruppattur.
November 7: The focus of the rains is on the southern districts.
The center of rain will shift towards the south.
A heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Theni, and Dindigul. The IMD has warned that low-lying areas are at risk of waterlogging and flooding. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea for safety reasons.

Condition of other districts
- Chennai Weather:Â The sky will remain partly cloudy in the capital. Light to moderate rain and scattered showers are expected in the morning and evening. No major alert is needed for Chennai at this time.
- Schools closed:Â Due to continuous rains, Tiruppur District Collector Shiva Soundaravalli has declared a holiday for all schools on Thursday, although colleges will remain open.
Disaster Management Department on alert
The State Disaster Management Department has directed all district collectors to remain on high alert. Rescue teams have already been deployed in flooded areas. The IMD has appealed to the public to monitor weather updates for the next five days and postpone non-essential travel.
