IMD Alert: The Meteorological Department has predicted 105 percent rainfall than the average during the monsoon season this year. There is a possibility of less rain in Ladakh, Northeast and Tamil Nadu. El-Nino and Indian Ocean Dipole conditions are expected to remain normal, which will lead to good rain.

IMD Alert: This year, good news has come for the people regarding monsoon. Because the clouds are going to rain heavily. The Meteorological Department has estimated that in 2025, the entire country will receive 105 percent more rainfall than the average. This news is good for agriculture and economy. Only Ladakh, Northeast and Tamil Nadu are likely to receive less than normal rainfall.

Favourable climatic conditions

According to the Meteorological Department, this year El-Nino and Indian Ocean Dipole are going to be normal, which is a sign of good monsoon. Due to favourable conditions of both of these, there is an increase in more than normal rainfall in the entire country.

The special thing is that the amount of snow will be less in Eurasia and Himalayan region. According to experts, when there is less snow in the Himalayas and its surrounding areas, then monsoon rain in India is more than average.

What did the head of the Meteorological Department say in the press conference?

Mitrunjay Mohapatra, head of the Meteorological Department (IMD), said during a press conference on Tuesday that there is a possibility of more than normal rainfall during the monsoon season (June to September) in the year 2025. The average rainfall during the monsoon is estimated to be 105 percent of the long-term average of 87 cm. Due to good rains, farmers and areas facing water crisis will get great relief.

What did he say about the heat?

Mitrunjay Mohapatra said that the heat wave will continue from April to June. Due to excessive heat, there will be more load on the power grid, which can cause water crisis.

Why is monsoon important for India?

India is an agricultural country. Here the livelihood of 42.3 percent of the population is based on agriculture, which contributes 18.2 percent of the country’s GDP. 52 percent of farming depends directly on rain. A good monsoon is very important for recharging reservoirs.

However, climate scientists have predicted that there will not be equal distribution of rain across the country. This is happening due to climate change.

When does the monsoon arrive in India?

Usually, the monsoon enters India from Kerala on July 1 and gradually moves towards North, East and West. By mid-July, the monsoon spreads across the country. The monsoon retreats from late September to mid-October.
