Additionally, an FIR has been lodged against the doctor by the attendants of the patient

The thing is, a hospital ward in Shimla turned into a boxing ring, leading to the immediate termination of a senior resident doctor. Basically, the Himachal Pradesh government on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, fired Dr. Raghav Narula from Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) following a physical altercation with a patient.

Actually, the conflict—which went viral via a mobile video—reportedly started over a linguistic disagreement: the patient objected to the doctor addressing him with the informal “tu” instead of the respectful “tum.”

As a result, what began as a verbal spat escalated into a violent exchange of punches and kicks, forcing the state to take “exemplary action” (let’s be real, “tu” vs. “tum” is a heavy price to pay for a career).

And here’s the kicker. The inquiry committee found that neither side was a saint.

Specifically, the report submitted to the Director of Medical Education (DME) concluded that both the patient, Arjun Singh (a private academy teacher), and the doctor were responsible for the misconduct.

Instead of a one-sided assault, the video showed the doctor punching the patient in the face while the patient was seen trying to kick back from his hospital bed. In fact, the government held that Dr. Narula’s actions were “unbecoming of a public servant” and a direct violation of the newly notified Resident Doctor Policy-2025. Consequently, despite the doctor’s claims that he was instigated with abusive language, his services were terminated under Clause 9 of the policy.

In fact, the medical community is now on a warpath over the decision. The thing is, the Shimla Association of Medical and Dental College Teachers (SAMDCOT) has warned of a statewide agitation.

Actually, the association claims the viral video is “incomplete” and that doctors are being unfairly targeted by “mob justice” after 100-200 people allegedly besieged the pulmonary ward for three hours.

And then Y followed. While the government has acted to pacify public anger, medical bodies are demanding safer working conditions and security guards in every ward. Consequently, if legal action isn’t taken against those who incited the mob, Shimla’s healthcare services could face a massive shutdown by next week (those too).

The thing is, the patient’s health remains the priority. Basically, Arjun Singh had visited IGMC for a bronchoscopy and was suffering from breathlessness when the fight broke out.

Instead of receiving medical attention, he suffered a nose injury during the scuffle. Actually, the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had personally intervened, demanding a report within 24 hours to ensure accountability. Consequently, while the doctor has been sacked, the police investigation into the FIR continues to determine if further criminal charges are warranted for both parties involved…
