In order to avail government subsidy directly in the State Bank of India (SBI) savings account, it is necessary to be linked to Aadhaar. SBI has asked its customers to link their bank accounts to Aadhaar through Twitter to take direct benefits. SBI said in a tweet, “We want to inform our customers that Aadhaar card seeding is mandatory to get direct benefits or subsidies from the Government of India.”

As per the Supreme Court ruling, it is not mandatory to link your bank account with your Aadhaar number. However, to avail government subsidy, it is mandatory to provide your Aadhaar number in your bank account. There are several options through which SBI account holders can link their bank account with Aadhaar.

Through SBI Internet Banking

log on to www.onlinesbi.com
Navigate to “Link your Aadhaar number” under “My Account”.
On the next page, select the account number, input the Aadhaar number and click Submit.
You will be shown the last 2 digits of the registered mobile number (non-editable).
The status of the mapping will be given to your registered mobile number.

SBI ATM

Go to SBI ATM.
Swipe your ATM Debit Card and enter your PIN.
Select the menu.
In this menu, select Aadhaar registration (or inquiry as per your requirement).
Now you can select the account type (savings / checking) after which you will be asked to enter your Aadhaar number.
You will be asked to enter the same again.
You will receive an SMS on your registered mobile number regarding seeding status.
SBI Branch

Go to your nearest SBI branch.

Take a copy of your Aadhaar number or e-Aadhaar.
Fill the request form.
Submit along with Xerox copy of Aadhaar letter.
After necessary verification, the link will be done by the branch.
You will get an SMS on your registered mobile number regarding seeding status.
