HDFC Bank Credit Card: If you use HDFC Bank’s credit card, then there is big news for you. New charges and reward point rules are going to be applicable on the use of cards on HDFC credit card users. These changes will come into effect from July 1, 2025. The new rules will affect online gaming, wallet loading, utility bills, rent, fuel and education payments. Let us know how much charge will be levied on which transactions and how to get reward points.

1. Charge on online skill-based gaming

  • If you spend more than Rs 10,000 a month on platforms like Dream11, MPL, Rummy Culture, Junglee Games, then the bank will charge 1%.
  • Maximum charge: Rs 4,999
  • Reward points: No reward points will be given on gaming.

2. Charge on wallet loading

If you load more than Rs 10,000 in a month from a credit card to a third party wallet like PayTM, Mobikwik, Freecharge or Ola Money, then a charge of 1% will be levied.

Maximum charge: Rs 4,999 monthly

3. Additional charge on utility bill

If you spend more than Rs 50,000 (consumer card) or Rs 75,000 (business card) in a month from your credit card, then a 1% charge will be levied on the utility bill. This charge will also be limited to Rs 4,999.

There will be no charge on insurance payment.

4. Changes on rent, fuel and education transactions

The charge of 1% on rent payment will continue as before and the maximum will be Rs 4,999. A 1% charge will be levied on fuel transactions only when the expenditure goes above Rs 15,000 or Rs 30,000. A 1% charge will be levied on education fees only when payment is made through third-party apps. There will be no charge on payment through school or college website or POS machine.

5. Reward point cap on insurance transactions

Insurance transactions will now earn reward points, but with a limit. The earlier reward capping will remain applicable on cards like Millennia, UPI, Swiggy, Paytm and Bharat. There will be no limit on reward points on insurance payments on Marriott Bonvoy card. HDFC card customers should plan their expenses before July 1 and use the card keeping these changes in mind. This will help you avoid additional charges and make the most of your reward points.
