Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, actor Govinda on Thursday joined the Shiv Sena party in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Before the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Bollywood actor Govinda has again entered politics. On Thursday, Bollywood actor Govinda joined Shiv Sena in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai. There is speculation that Govinda may contest from the North-West Mumbai seat on a Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) ticket, in which he may challenge Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Amol Kirtikar.

According to PTI report, recently actor Govinda met Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Ever since their meeting, speculations about Govinda’s entry into politics had gained momentum. Today, Shinde camp spokesperson Krishna Hegde met actor Govinda at his Mumbai residence, after which it was believed that Govinda could join Shiv Sena.

Govinda has previously worked in political field.

Govinda had contested elections from Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat on behalf of Congress in 2004. He had defeated veteran BJP leader Ram Naik. However, Govinda later broke away from the Congress party and decided not to contest the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

Eknath Shinde welcomed actor Govinda into his party, saying that he is a popular person among all sections of the society. Govinda, who started his acting career in the 1980s, said that after his first stint in politics from 2004 to 2009, he never thought that he would return to the same field again.

Govinda said that I have returned (to politics) after 14 years of long ‘vanvas’ (exile). If given a chance, he will work in the field of art and culture. Mumbai is looking more beautiful and developed since Shinde became the Chief Minister.

Lok Sabha elections for 48 seats in Maharashtra will be held in five phases between April 19 and May 20. Counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections will take place on June 4.
