FastTag New Rules 2025: Vehicles entering toll plazas on National Highways without a valid and working Fastag will be charged 1.25 times the normal toll amount, but they will have to opt for payment through UPI instead of cash.

People crossing toll without FastTag no longer need to pay double the fee. Vehicles entering toll plazas on National Highways without a valid and working FastTag will be charged 1.25 times the normal toll amount, but for this they will have to opt for payment through UPI instead of cash. The government gave this information on Saturday and said that this has been done to reduce cash transactions. Let us tell you, this new rule will come into effect from November 15. Currently, those travelling without a valid FastTag have to pay double the toll fee on cash payment.

Has the ministry said anything?

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement that the Government of India has amended the National Highway Fee (Determination and Collection of Rates) Rules, 2008 to encourage digital payments and eliminate cash transactions for non-FASTag users. “Under the new rule, vehicles entering the toll plaza without a valid and functional FASTag will be charged double the toll amount if they pay in cash,” the ministry said. “Users who pay through UPI will be charged only 1.25 times the applicable user fee,” it added.

Annual fee of Rs 3000

Earlier this year, on August 15th, the Ministry of Road Transport announced an annual toll pass for ₹3,000 on national highways. This pass will be valid for one year or 200 trips, whichever comes first. This means people are paying an average of ₹15 per trip. This has been a major relief for those traveling on national highways.
