FASTag Annual Pass: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced the launch of FASTag annual pass for private vehicles. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on June 18 that this scheme will come into effect from August 15, 2025. This facility will be for non-commercial private vehicles like cars, jeeps and vans.

Let us know how much the annual FASTag pass will cost, what benefits will be available in it. Also, how much toll tax will be saved with its help.

What is FASTag facility?

FASTag is a sticker that you can put on the windshield of your vehicle. This will automatically make toll payment from the linked prepaid account when crossing the toll booth. FASTag uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for payment.

You can recharge your Fastag as per your requirement through UPI application and online banking. There is also a dedicated ‘My Fastag App’ for this.

What will you get in the new FASTag pass?

The FASTag annual pass will be valid for one year or 200 toll trips (whichever is completed first). Its cost will be ₹3,000. This will provide relief to frequent highway travellers from paying toll repeatedly.

How much will be the savings with FASTag pass?

If a traveler spends ₹60 on an average on a trip, then his total cost on 200 trips can be up to ₹12,000. In such a situation, this ₹3,000 annual pass FASTag can give him savings of up to ₹9,000. However, the actual savings will depend on how much your average expenditure is per trip.

Where will I get this facility?

Travelers can buy the annual pass through the HighwayYatra mobile application as well as from the official website of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). There are also certain conditions to be eligible for a FASTag pass:

  • Your FASTag must be properly affixed to the windshield of the vehicle.
  • It must be linked to a valid registration number.
  • If FASTag is blacklisted, you will not be eligible.

Will I have to get a new FASTag?

No, you can activate the pass on your existing FASTag only. Its activation is also very easy. After verification of FASTag and vehicle, the pass can be activated by paying ₹ 3,000.

You will not even need to get two FASTags. A single FASTag will work everywhere. Where this pass is not valid, the normal fee will be deducted.

At which toll plazas will it be valid?

This pass will be valid only at the fee plazas on National Highways and National Expressways. This pass will not be valid at toll plazas operated by state governments.

Some important things related to FASTag pass

  • Re-activation: After completion of one year or 200 trips, you can re-activate the pass by paying ₹3,000. Otherwise, your FASTag will revert to normal.
  • Alternative arrangement: This is an alternative facility. If you do not want to take a FASTag pass, you can pay toll at normal rates through the existing FASTag system.
  • For private vehicles only: This pass is valid only for private cars, jeeps and vans. If used in a commercial vehicle, it will be deactivated.
  • Definition of Trip: Each crossing at an open toll plaza will be considered as one trip. Whereas, in a closed highway system, one entry and exit will be counted as one trip.
  • No transferability: This pass will be linked to that particular vehicle and its FASTag. Cannot be transferred to any other vehicle.

The ministry hopes that this policy will not only simplify toll payment but will also help in reducing problems of jams, disputes and delays.
