Lost PPO number will be found from here

After retirement, a 12-digit PPO number is given to the employee by the EPFO. If for some reason your PPO number is lost or you have forgotten, then you can easily retrieve it again with the help of your bank account number or PF number. You can do this work online sitting at home.

How to get PPO number online?

1. With the help of EPFO Pensioners Portal

Visit the official pensioners portal of EPFO. In the ‘Know your PPO number’ section, enter your registered bank account number or EPS member ID. If your details match the EPFO records, your PPO number will appear immediately.

2. With the help of UMANG app

The government’s UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) app gives an easy option. After logging in, go to ‘EPFO’ Services, then go to ‘Pensioner Services’ and select ‘Know your PPO number’. You can get the PPO number by providing your Aadhaar or pension linked bank account details.

3. DigiLocker

EPFO has also introduced the facility to download PPO certificate through DigiLocker under the Digital India initiative.

  • Download the DigiLocker app or visit digilocker.gov.in
  • Sign up and link your Aadhaar (make sure your mobile number linked to Aadhaar is active for OTP verification).
  • Search for “Employees Provident Fund Organisation” in ‘Documents issued’ and enter your PPO number and the last four digits of the bank account linked to the pension.
  • After verification, your PPO certificate will be available directly from EPFO records.

How to get PPO number offline?

If you are not comfortable with online methods, visit the branch of your pension paying bank. Give the savings account number linked to your pension to the bank officer. They can retrieve your PPO number from their system and give it to you.

Keep your PPO number safe

After getting the PPO number, save a digital copy of your PPO document or write down the number safely. This is required for submitting life certificate, updating pension data and availing any service through EPFO.

Pension account can be transferred to other branch

You also need a PPO number to transfer the pension account from one branch of a bank to another. Apart from this, the PPO number has to be given while submitting the life certificate. Not only this, this number is also very useful in registering pension related complaints or knowing pension status online.
