The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has given a very good news. The organization has increased the ex-gratia amount available in the death relief fund for its central board employees. Now this amount has been increased from Rs 8.8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. This new rule will come into effect from April 1, 2025.
Who will get this benefit?
This amount will be given to the nominee or legal heirs of the employee who dies during service. This payment will be made from the Staff Welfare Fund. EPFO has given this information in a circular dated August 19, 2025.
The amount will increase every year
Along with this, another good news is that this amount will increase by 5% every year. This increase will start from April 1, 2026. Its purpose is to keep pace with inflation and rising costs.
Processes made simple
In the year 2025, EPFO has made many improvements for its members to make the processes easier. For example, the process of death claim has been simplified. Now guardianship certificate will not be required for payment in the bank account of minor children.
The process of linking Aadhaar with UAN or making corrections has also been simplified. The aim of these reforms is to provide faster and better services to employees and their families.
Record increase in employment
The provisional payroll figures of EPFO for June 2025 are also very encouraging. According to them, 21.8 lakh new formal jobs were created in the month of June. This is the highest figure since payroll tracking began in April 2018. This is an increase of 8.9% compared to May 2025.
During this period, about 10.6 lakh new members joined EPFO. More than 60% of these (6.4 lakh) were youth in the age group of 18 to 25 years. This shows that most of the people getting jobs in the organized sector are young people and first-time job seekers.
Looking across different industries, the highest growth was seen in schools, specialist services, construction and establishments associated with universities and colleges.
