EPFO: Good news for employees. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has simplified the process of linking and updating Aadhaar with Universal Account Number (UAN). According to the circular issued on August 13, now it will not take much time for the members to update their details. Employees will also not need the approval of EPFO every time.

How will you benefit?

If the name, gender and date of birth recorded in your UAN exactly match the Aadhaar, then you only have to contact your employer. The employer will seed your Aadhaar through the KYC portal and there will be no need to take separate approval from EPFO for this. That is, this process will become faster and easier.

In case of error in details

If there is a difference in the name, gender or date of birth between your UAN and Aadhaar. So now the employer can send the update request from the online Joint Declaration (JD) portal. Earlier, a manual process had to be adopted for such updates, which wasted a lot of time.

What if the wrong Aadhaar is linked?

Many times the wrong Aadhaar number gets linked to UAN by mistake. Now in this situation, the employer can update the correct Aadhaar number on the JD portal and send it directly to the local office of EPFO. After getting approval from there, the correct Aadhaar will be linked.

Why is this change important?

EPFO first started the Aadhaar seeding service in 2014. So that, members can get direct benefits and there is less dependence on the employer. Now with the new changes, this process has become easier than before. This step will provide relief to millions of employees, as they will be able to update their information easily and get the benefits related to EPF.
