EPFO: You don’t need to log on to any website or visit the EPFO office to access your PF information. Here’s how to check PF balance through missed call
PF Balance Check: For millions of salaried individuals in India, the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is an important part of their retirement savings. Your company or employer has been contributing regularly to your provident fund. In such a situation, people have a desire to know how much balance is in their provident fund. Many subscribers are still unaware that they can check their EPF balance and last contribution details. You don’t need to log on to any website or visit the EPFO office to access your PF information. Through EPFO’s missed call or SMS service, you can easily check the balance from home without any charge. Let us tell you the whole process.
Prerequisites to check EPF balance
To use the missed call or SMS facility, you must ensure the following:
1. Your Universal Account Number (UAN) must be activated.
Its activation can be done through the EPFO portal (https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in).
2. Your mobile number must be linked to your UAN.
The services will work only when the balance check request is made from the mobile number linked to your UAN.
3. At least one KYC document (Aadhaar, PAN) must be linked to your UAN.
How to check EPF balance through missed call
Once the above conditions are met, EPF balance can be checked very easily:
Step 1: From your UAN-linked mobile number, give a missed call to 9966044425. The call will be automatically disconnected after two rings and you will not be charged.
Step 2: Shortly after, you will receive an SMS containing details of your previous EPF contributions and your current Provident Fund balance.
This service is completely free and is available 24×7.
How to check EPF balance via SMS?
The EPFO also offers an SMS-based facility that gives you your account details in a few seconds.
Step 1: Open the SMS app on your phone.
Step 2: Type the message in this format: ‘EPFOHO UAN’
Step 3: Send this message to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number.
You will then receive a reply in English by default. However, the EPFO also provides information in several Indian languages Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Bengali. To receive the message in your preferred language, add the first three letters of the name of that language at the end of the message.
For example:
To receive a message in Telugu, type: ‘EPFOHO UAN TEL’
For Hindi, type: ‘EPFOHO UAN HIN’
For Tamil, type: ‘EPFOHO UAN TAM’
EPFO’s missed call and SMS services are helpful for those who want to stay updated with their provident fund account without the need for internet access. These services provide quick and hassle-free access to your PF balance and recent contributions. However, your UAN must be active and at least one KYC document and your mobile number must be linked.
