The Election Commission of India has announced a paid holiday on polling day to ensure all voters have the opportunity to cast their votes in the Bihar Assembly elections and by-elections.
The Commission clarified that voting is not only a right of every citizen, but also a responsibility to strengthen the democratic system.
Bihar Election and By-election Dates Announced
According to the Election Commission of India, the General Elections to the Bihar Legislative Assembly will be held in two phases. The first phase of voting will be held on November 6, 2025 (Thursday) and the second phase on November 11, 2025 (Tuesday).
Along with this, by-elections in 8 assembly constituencies will also be held on November 11, 2025. Under Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, any person who is employed in any profession, trade, industrial undertaking or other establishment is entitled to vote in the election to the Lok Sabha or the Legislative Assembly of a State/Union Territory.
Such employees will be granted paid leave on polling day, and their salaries will not be deducted during this leave. The Commission has warned that companies or establishments violating this provision will be fined. This benefit will apply to all employed people, regardless of their sector of work.
Remote voters will also receive paid leave.
The Election Commission has also clarified that if a voter works in a location away from their constituency but is registered as a voter in their constituency, they will also receive paid leave on Election Day. This provision will allow voters to cast their votes in their constituency.
