This time the festival of Dussehra is going to be special for the students of schools and colleges in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. According to the holiday calendar released by the state education department, this year students will get more days off than usual.
Dussehra, which will be celebrated on October 2, 2025, has been fixed for at least 9 days of holiday in most institutions, while in some areas the holidays will be even longer. This decision is a relief for both students and parents, as it will allow them to celebrate the festival with pomp and also give them a chance to relax.
Due to the long vacation, children will be able to take time out for travel and family events apart from studies. In Telangana, this vacation is going to be longer than in Andhra Pradesh, so that students will be able to enjoy the festival with full enthusiasm.
Holiday in Andhra Pradesh from September 24
Schools and colleges in Andhra Pradesh will remain closed from September 24 to October 2. This means that students will get a holiday of about nine days. However, in Christian minority institutions, these holidays will be somewhat less and there will be a break of only 6 days from September 27 to October 2.
13 days holiday in Telangana
This time, students in Telangana are going to get an even longer festival break. Schools and colleges will remain closed from 21 September to 3 October. That means students will get a full 13-day holiday. Apart from this, a holiday has also been announced on the occasion of Urs-un-Nabi on 5 September. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.
Why is Dussehra celebrated ?
Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is one of the major festivals of Hinduism. This festival is celebrated on the Dashami Tithi of the month of Ashwin. This day symbolizes the victory of good over evil, when Lord Rama killed Ravana. This year Dussehra will be celebrated on 2 October 2025 (Thursday).
Such a long vacation means that students will not only be able to celebrate the festival with pomp and show but will also get enough time for rest, travel and studies. At the same time, parents can also spend time with their children and plan their holidays in advance.
