Karnataka’s DGP-rank IPS officer K. Ramachandra Rao’s objectionable video went viral on social media on Monday, causing a stir. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered an inquiry into the alleged obscene video that went viral on social media. The Chief Minister has said that necessary action will be taken based on the investigation report. Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara said that the government has taken immediate action and suspended DGP K. Ramachandra Rao after the alleged video went viral in an objectionable position with women. He may also be dismissed after the investigation.
Parmeshwara said an investigation has been ordered into the incident and further action will be taken based on the investigation report. He added, “He could even be dismissed.” On Monday, a video aired on news channels allegedly showing Rao in a compromising position with women. Rao has denied the video, calling it “fake.”
Home Minister gave a statement
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru , the state Home Minister stated that the suspension was an immediate step, given the seriousness of the matter. “We have suspended him,” he said. “An investigation will be conducted, and other aspects will be revealed, and further action will be taken accordingly.” When asked if the suspended officer wanted to meet him, Parameshwara said he deliberately avoided any interaction. “In such a situation, it’s important to be cautious, so I didn’t meet him,” he said. Regarding the BJP’s demand for the officer’s arrest, the minister indicated that the government was not ruling out more stringent action in the future.
When asked about the complainant, the minister said, “I have no information about the complainant. I don’t know anything about this case other than what has come to light initially.” He added that the incident has brought shame to the department. Such incidents are a source of shame not only for the police department but for other departments as well.
He has a long history of controversies.
Ramachandra Rao has previously been embroiled in controversy. He is the stepfather of jailed actress Ranya Rao. In March 2025, he was sent on compulsory leave following allegations of involvement in a gold smuggling case. Ranya Rao is also accused of abusing her father’s position and protocol to avoid security checks.
