Delhi Road Tax: The Delhi government is preparing to increase road tax on cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles. The proposal to increase the tax has been sent by the Ministry of Transport to the Finance Department.

Proposal sent to finance department

At present, road tax on private vehicles in Delhi is up to 12.5 percent depending on the type of fuel and the price range. According to sources, a proposal to increase road tax on special categories of commercial vehicles has been sent by the Transport Department to the Finance Department.

Road tax exemption for electric vehicles

Let us tell you that there is a discount on road tax on electric vehicles in Delhi. The intention of the government behind this is to promote electric vehicles. The Transport Department of Delhi Government has set a target to collect Rs 2,000 crore from various taxes and duties in the annual budget 2022-23.

Target to have 25% share of EVs

The Delhi government aims to increase the share of electric vehicles in total vehicle sales to 25 per cent by 2024. Electric vehicles accounted for 12.6% of the vehicle sales in March. Earlier it was 10.6 in February and 8 percent in January.
