Due to an intensifying cold wave and persistent dense fog, district administrations across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Haryana have extended school holidays and winter breaks to ensure student safety. As of January 7, 2026, severe visibility issues and plummeting temperatures (reaching lows of 7°C–8°C) have made early morning commutes hazardous.

2. Key Region-Specific Updates

  • Delhi: The Directorate of Education (DoE) confirmed that the pre-planned winter vacation from January 1 to January 15, 2026, is currently in effect. No separate extension has been issued yet, as the existing break covers the current cold spell.

  • Noida & Ghaziabad: The District Magistrate issued a fresh order extending the closure for Primary and Middle school (up to Class 8) until January 10, 2026.

    • Classes 9–12: These classes will continue to function as per their regular schedule or shifted timings (usually starting after 9:00 AM) to minimize exposure to fog.

  • Haryana (Gurugram/Faridabad): The state has implemented a uniform winter break for all schools from January 1 to January 15.

3. Impact on Senior Students (Classes 10 & 12)

Despite the closures for younger students, board exam preparations remain a priority:

  • Practical Exams: CBSE and ICSE practical exams for 2026 have begun in some regions. Students are advised to contact their schools directly, as practical schedules are often exempt from cold-wave holidays.

  • Online Classes: Many private schools in Noida and Delhi have announced a shift to online mode for classes 6–8 during the closure period to ensure the syllabus remains on track.
