New Delhi: The central government may soon restore the operations of Delhi Metro which has been closed for four months. According to Union Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, the metro is likely to be restored after August 15. For this, soon a Standard Operating Procedure will be introduced, in which travel can be done with only 50 percent capacity. However, other travellers will have to wait for now.
The Union Minister said that rules and regulations will be tightened so that the war against Coronavirus infection can continue and the passengers can also be provided relief. In the first phase, only people related to government employees, health workers and other mandatory services will get the facility of travel. The central government is considering opening metro services all over the country, not just in one metropolitan city. The ministry has also insisted on opening the metro system back in all places because all metro authorities are in a huge deficit.
There is a lot of jam on the roads due to the closure of the metro service. Now the wait is for the next phase unlock guidelines coming this month. According to statistics, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which has been closed since March 22, has incurred a loss of more than Rs 1350 crore so far. Officials related to DMRC say that metro trains are being operated in many cities of the world with ease and safety.
