Delhi Airport News: Runway 28/10 of Delhi’s IGI Airport is being closed once again for 90 days. In these 90 days, CAT III B equipment and ILS system are to be installed.

Delhi IGI Airport News: The struggle of passengers is going to start once again at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. This time this struggle will last for about 90 days. Meanwhile, there is also a possibility of cancellation of a large number of flights. However, during this time, the Union Civil Aviation Ministry as well as many airlines are seen in action to ensure that passengers face minimum inconvenience. The ministry has instructed airport operator DIAL and airlines to take all precautionary measures.

In fact, IGI Airport is counted as the busiest airport in the country. You can guess the busyness of this airport from the fact that about 1400 passenger aircrafts move from this airport daily. In this regard, the average time of movement between two aircrafts at IGI Airport is just 21 seconds. There are a total of four runways at the airport to handle two to three aircraft movements every minute. At the same time, runway 28/10 is counted as the main runway.

Aviation Minister took charge

In the past few days, everyone has realized the importance of IGI Airport runway 28/10. As soon as this runway was closed for upgradation on April 8, the series of flight delays and diversions started. The situation worsened to such an extent that the number of delayed flights from Delhi Airport started reaching hundreds and dozens of flights started getting diverted to nearby airports including Jaipur. Seeing the situation worsening, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu intervened and the runway was opened again for flight operations.

When is the main runway being closed

Now there are preparations to close runway 28/10 once again. As per the plan, runway 28/10 will be closed from June 15 for the next 90 days. To ensure that passengers do not face any problems during these 90 days, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu held a big meeting with airlines on Tuesday. He instructed the airlines to prepare a plan for flight cancellation in advance, so that passengers face minimum problems. Let us tell you here that runway 28/10 is being closed for CAT III B equipment and Instrument Landing System (ILS) installation.
