CBSE New Rule: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a notification on its official website and informed about the rules for studying Maths in class 11. This decision will benefit those students who want to study Mathematics in depth in class 11 even after studying basic Maths in class 10.

CBSE New Rule: CBSE has changed the rules for studying Maths for class 11 students. This is a big relief and good news for all those students who want to make a career in medical or engineering in future. Now students studying basic Maths in class 10 will also be able to choose Standard Maths (Mathematics-041) in class 11.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a notification on its official website and informed about the rules for studying Maths in class 11. This decision will benefit those students who want to study Mathematics in depth in class 11 even after studying basic Maths in class 10.

What is the new rule?

CBSE has said in its latest notification that students who have studied Basic Maths (241) in class 10 can now choose Standard Maths (041) in class 11. Earlier this facility was only for those students who had studied Standard Maths in class 10, as this course was designed for those who wanted to continue mathematics in class 12 as well. But now the board has relaxed the rules, so that more and more students get a chance to study mathematics.

However, schools will have to ensure that students choosing Standard Maths from Basic Maths have the ability and interest to study this subject. The school principal has been given the responsibility to assess the ability of the student.

What was the earlier rule regarding studying maths?

In the last few years, CBSE had given some relaxation in the rules due to the Kovid epidemic and other reasons, under which students with basic maths were allowed to choose Standard Maths in class 11. But this relaxation was temporary. Now it has been implemented permanently from the 2025-26 session. The purpose of this change is to give an opportunity to those students who, even after choosing basic maths in class 10, want to make a career with mathematics in higher education, such as in engineering or science stream.

What does it mean for students and parents?

This decision is a boon for those students who chose basic maths in class 10 because they found standard maths difficult, but now they are interested in mathematics. For example, if a student wants to go into engineering, data science or other math-based careers, then this rule will make the way easier for them.

But CBSE has also made it clear that once standard maths is chosen in class 11, it will be difficult to change it. Therefore, students and parents have to take a decision carefully. Schools have been advised to ensure that the students are ready to study this subject through a test or counseling of their maths ability.

What to do to choose standard maths?

If you want to choose standard maths in 11th, then contact your school principal or math teacher. They will assess your mathematical ability and give proper guidance. You can also download the latest notification and syllabus by visiting the official website of CBSE (cbse.gov.in).
