CBSE has made a big announcement. Now the students of class 10 will be examined twice a year. The first exam will be held in February-March and the second exam will be held in the month of May. The first exam will be the main exam and the second exam will be called the improvement exam. The purpose of this change is to reduce the exam pressure on the students and give them another chance to improve their performance. Let’s know the final schedule.

Why was this decision taken?

For a long time it was felt that the board exam only once a year puts excessive mental pressure on the students. Poor performance in one exam can affect their entire future, which increases anxiety and frustration in them. The Ministry of Education and CBSE have taken this step keeping this problem in mind.

When will the new rule be implemented? How will the exam be conducted?

According to the information given by CBSE, the new rule is likely to be implemented from the next academic session. However, the final and detailed schedule will be released by the board soon.

Understand the new changes in simple language

1. Opportunity to appear for board exams twice a year:

The first exam will be compulsory

2. Rules for appearing in improvement exams:

Students who have passed can appear for re-examination in any 3 subjects from science, mathematics, social science and languages. But if a student did not appear for 3 or more subjects in the first exam, he will not be able to appear for the second exam.

3. Special exemption for special students:

  • Sports students: Those whose exams are clashing with their sports program can appear for the second exam in those subjects.
  • Students from winter areas: They can choose to appear in either the first or second exam.
  • Disabled students: The same facilities they get in the first exam will be available in the second exam as well.

4- Internal Assessment:

This will be done only once – before the first (main) exam.

  • First exam – can be held in mid-February.
  • Second exam – in May.

6. Who can appear for the exam:

  • Both exams will be based on the full syllabus of the whole year.
  • The method of studying and giving the paper will remain the same as before.

8. Exam form (LOC):

  • It will be necessary to fill the LOC for the first exam.
  • A separate LOC will be filled for the second exam, but no new name will be added to it.
  • Subjects cannot be changed, except in the cases mentioned in the policy.

9. Result and documents:

  • Result of the first exam – in April,
  • Result of the second exam – in June.
  • The result of the first exam will be available on DigiLocker, through which temporary admission can be taken in class 11th.
