Vodafone idea: Will Vodafone-BSNL become one? What will happen to Vi’s 20 crore customers. Many such big questions must be coming to mind. What could be the future of Vi? What options does the company have, read full details about it here.
The country’s third largest telecom company Vodafone-Idea (Vi) has got a big setback from the Supreme Court. The court rejected the petition in which Vi had requested to waive interest and penalty of $ 5 billion (about Rs 41,000 crore). The government had already rejected this demand. Now the company’s problems have increased due to not getting any help from the Supreme Court. In such a situation, questions have started arising whether Vi will be shut down? Will it be merged with BSNL? What should crores of Vi customers do now? You will get answers to all such questions here.
How much debt is there on Vi?
According to the Times of India report, the total AGR (Adjusted Gross Revenue) on Vi is around Rs 83,400 crore. The actual outstanding amount is Rs 12,797 crore. Interest of Rs 28,294 crore has been imposed. Apart from this, a fine of Rs 6,012 crore has been imposed. Not only this, interest is also pending on the penalty of Rs 11,151 crore on the company.
The company’s CEO Akshay Mundhra says that if no relief is received, it may be difficult for the company to run the service after 2025-26.
Will Vi be merged with BSNL?
According to the report, the government already has 49 percent stake in Vi. In such a situation, if the government wants, it can buy the remaining stake and make it a completely government company. According to this, the government can probably merge Vi with BSNL. This can increase both BSNL’s network and custom. After this, BSNL can become the third largest telecom company in India.
Vi’s history is full of changes
Vi’s journey has always been associated with changes. Earlier it was Essar. After this it became Hutchison Essar. Then it became Hutc. This sequence did not stop here, after this it became Vodafone and then after the arrival of Jio it became Vodafone-Idea. Now what will happen next can be known only when the time comes.
What if Vi shuts down?
If Vi shuts down, then only two big private telecom companies will remain in the country, first Jio and second Airtel. This can lead to dominance of two companies in the market. These companies can fix rates according to their own, which can affect the customers. BSNL is still present, but its hold is not that strong.
Vi is facing challenges, but it remains to be seen whether the government and the company find a way out together or not. For now, it may be wise for the customers to wait a little.
