BSNL has launched its new VoWiFi (Voice over Wi-Fi) service, which allows users to make calls over a Wi-Fi connection without a mobile network. This move brings BSNL on par with private companies like Airtel and Vodafone-Idea, which already offer this service.
BSNL network expansion
It’s worth noting that BSNL has launched VoWiFi services to mark its 25th anniversary, a milestone it considers a significant achievement. It’s worth noting that BSNL recently expanded its 4G service by installing more than 100,000 mobile towers across the country. The company plans to install approximately 97,500 more towers in the future.
The service was launched on October 2nd by Mittal, Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications (DOT). Currently, the service has been launched in the South and West circles, but it will soon be made available nationwide. Additionally, BSNL recently launched 4G and eSIM services in Mumbai, which were previously launched in Tamil Nadu.
How will VoWiFi service work?
This service will prove beneficial in areas with slow network connections. Users can use it via their home Wi-Fi or broadband connection, allowing for clear and stable calls without interruptions. However, this requires the user’s smartphone to have VoWiFi. However, this feature is now available on Android and iPhone devices.
VoWiFi service free for BSNL customers
BSNL, through its official X account, announced that this new VoWiFi service will be completely free. Users will not incur any additional charges for making calls. This service will provide customers with improved connectivity and a seamless calling experience at no additional cost.
BSNL will compete with private companies
This move by BSNL will now compete with major telecom companies like Airtel and Vi. While these private companies previously offered Wi-Fi calling, BSNL has now joined the ranks. This move could prove to be a major opportunity for BSNL to strengthen its hold in the Indian telecom market and modernize its network.
