Desk: The Haryana government has made an important decision for the convenience of citizens. The deadline for adding children’s names to birth certificates has been extended to 15 years.

Following the initiative of the Municipal Corporation, the Chief Registrar of the Health Department has issued a letter to all concerned officials regarding this. Previously, this period was significantly limited, causing many families to face difficulties due to their child’s name not being included on the birth certificate.

What is the process of enrolling?

To have a child’s name registered on a birth certificate, the applicant must submit an application offline to the registrar’s office of the respective municipal corporation. The following documents must be attached to the application:

  • Child’s birth certificate without name
  • Identification documents (such as Aadhaar card)
  • Copy of parent’s identification
  • Request letter for adding name

In addition, a government fee of ₹75 must be paid. The name addition process will be completed within approximately one month of submitting the application. This deadline has been set to expedite the scrutiny of applications and the processing.

Why is this reform important?

In the past, many children were not able to have their names registered on birth certificates due to the short time limit, which led to:

  • school admissions
  • availing government schemes
  • Getting an identity card (like Aadhaar, PAN card)

Previously, people faced difficulties in completing necessary procedures like registration. Now, with the permission to register for 15 years, these problems will be largely eliminated and citizens will find it easier to obtain the necessary documents in a timely manner.

Potential for further improvement in the future

This decision is an important step towards Digital India and administrative reforms. In the future, the Municipal Corporation and Health Department can work towards simplifying and digitizing other processes as well. This will make the process of obtaining birth certificates and other identity cards even more convenient, transparent, and faster.

This decision by the Haryana government is in the interest of the general public, providing relief, especially to families who, for some reason, were unable to register their names in time. This change is a commendable initiative towards bringing transparency and flexibility to the processes related to government documents.
